When using on DVD movies, subtitles are generally hidden unless viewers request it from a menu. Subtitles in DVDs are stored in VOB files, together with the main video and audio streams. DVD subtitle is just a stream of image files which appears one after another. Different from text -based subtitles, subtitles in DVD can't be edited, scaled or modified.

Here are different forms of DVD movie subtitles

Movie subtitles have two forms, open (hard) subtitles and closed (soft) subtitles.

• Open Subtitles cannot be removed or turned off for the contents are irrevocably built in video, for example lyrics of karaoke songs.
• On the other hand, closed subtitles are mainly used on DVD/Blu-ray allowing viewer to turn on/off or change subtitles if there are multiple language subtitle tracks.
